At Mulberry Silverdale Primary, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil is fully included, engaged and able to thrive through a curriculum that is responsive to their individual needs.
Our approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) reflects the vision and values of the Mulberry Schools Trust, as outlined on the Trust’s website. We are dedicated to equity, inclusion and excellence, ensuring that all pupils—regardless of need or starting point—are empowered to succeed and participate fully in school life. Our SEND policy is designed to enable every child to flourish. We provide a high-quality, inclusive education that supports pupils in reaching their full potential. This includes appropriate challenge and enrichment for pupils with particular strengths, as well as targeted support for those who face barriers to learning. In line with national developments outlined in the Every Child Achieving and Thriving schools white paper, we adopt a whole-school approach to inclusion. We prioritise early identification and intervention, ensuring that additional needs are recognised quickly and addressed through adaptive teaching and evidence-informed support. This includes a graduated approach, with targeted interventions, small group work and, where appropriate, one-to-one support. We are committed to maintaining the full inclusion of pupils within mainstream classrooms wherever possible. Our provision is designed to be flexible and responsive, ensuring that all children can access an ambitious curriculum alongside their peers. Where needed, additional support is provided to address a range of needs, including learning, communication, emotional and behavioural challenges. Consistent with the principles set out in the SEND reform guidance, we work collaboratively with families and external professionals to develop a clear understanding of each child’s needs. We value the insights of parents and carers and actively involve them in planning and reviewing support. Where appropriate, we engage with external specialists to enhance provision and ensure that pupils receive the right support at the right time. Through this inclusive and collaborative approach, we aim to create a calm, supportive and aspirational learning environment where every child feels valued, supported and able to succeed.
